Ex-Imo Lawmaker Chief Ethelbert Nnanna Dies at 69

A former member of the Imo State House of Assembly, Chief Ethelbert Nnanna, who represented the Oguta constituency from 2003 to 2007, has passed away. He was 69 years old and died after a short illness.

Family Confirms Passing of Chief Ethelbert Nnanna

His death was confirmed in a statement on Thursday by a family representative, Golden Nnaemeka Nnanna, who expressed deep regret over the loss. The family described the deceased as “a man of integrity, service, and unwavering commitment to humanity, whose life impacted politics, business, and grassroots development in Imo State.”

Early Life and Educational Background

According to the family statement, Chief Nnanna was born in Umuomara, Obeama Agwa, in Oguta Local Government Area (LGA). He began his career in public service before transitioning into politics.

Political Career and Achievements

After serving as a member of the Imo State House of Assembly, he was appointed Chairman of the Transition Committee of Oguta LGA. Later, former Governor Chief Ikedi Ohakim appointed him as Special Adviser on Contact and Mobilization to the Governor.

Before entering politics, Chief Nnanna worked at the Imo State Environmental Sanitation Authority and later at Adapalm in Ohaji, where he rose to managerial positions.

Traditional and Community Leadership

Beyond elective office, the late lawmaker was deeply involved in traditional and community leadership. He held the title of Chief and Traditional Prime Minister of Mbano Autonomous Community, Agwa, Oguta LGA. He was also a Knight of St. John International and served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Complimentary Hotel and Suites, Owerri.

The Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Public Orientation, Collins Ughalaa, described Chief Nnanna as dependable and honest. “Nnanna’s life impacted politics, business, and community development in Imo State. He will be remembered for his wisdom, kindness, and dedication to community development,” Ughalaa said.
