FIDA Honors Lagos ACP Oluwatoyin Kazeem for Excellence in Combating Gender-Based Violence
The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Lagos State Chapter, has presented an Award of Professionalism and Excellence to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Oluwatoyin Kazeem. This prestigious honor recognizes her outstanding contributions to protecting vulnerable groups and delivering justice, particularly in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV) and domestic abuse across Lagos State.
Recognition for Dedicated Service
ACP Kazeem, who serves as the Officer-in-Charge of the Legal and Gender Section at the Lagos State Police Command, received the award from FIDA executive members during a ceremony held at her office in GRA Ikeja, Lagos. The accolade underscores her unwavering commitment to humanity, with a special focus on her tireless efforts to address critical issues such as domestic violence and GBV.
Impactful Leadership and Achievements
Since assuming her role, ACP Kazeem has been widely praised for leading decisive campaigns against gender-based violence and handling cases with uncompromising integrity. Her diligence and professionalism have been instrumental in coordinating strategic responses to GBV incidents, strengthening institutional frameworks, and ensuring thorough investigations and prosecutions of offenders.
Under her leadership, the Gender unit of the Lagos State Police Command reported significant enforcement actions, including the arrest of 114 individuals for defilement and 24 persons for sexual assault by penetration between January 1, 2025, and December 1, 2025. These statistics highlight the tangible impact of her work in holding perpetrators accountable.
Enhancing Public Awareness and Trust
ACP Kazeem has also driven impactful sensitization and public awareness initiatives, educating communities and empowering victims to seek justice. Her compassionate yet firm approach has not only improved the handling of GBV cases but also reinforced public trust in the police force. FIDA commended her for setting a high standard in the ongoing battle against domestic and gender-based violence, making her a deserving recipient of this legal honor.
