Dr. Jibril Lawal Tafida, the Special Adviser to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has publicly disowned a controversial letter that was allegedly sent to President Bola Tinubu, labeling the document as a complete fabrication.
Disclaimer Issued Over Fabricated Document
The disputed letter, which was dated November 22, 2025, began circulating widely across various social media platforms. It was addressed to the Office of the President at Aso Villa in Abuja and contained serious allegations of corruption within the National Assembly.
Furthermore, the letter made the personal claim that Dr. Tafida had been abandoned by Senator Akpabio following the death of his mother, adding a layer of emotional distress to the political smear campaign.
Tafida's Firm Rejection of the Letter's Content
In a swift and decisive response, Dr. Tafida released a formal, four-paragraph statement on the same day, November 22. The statement was titled “Disclaimer on a fabricated document circulating in my name”.
In it, he categorically stated, “I did not author, sign, or approve the letter that has been circulating. The claims within it are entirely false and do not reflect my views in any way.” He emphasized that he neither wrote, authorized, nor endorsed the document in any form.
A Deliberate Attempt to Malign and Weaponize
Dr. Tafida did not mince words in describing the intent behind the fake letter. He characterized it as a deliberate attempt to weaponize his name with the primary goal of tarnishing the reputation of the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of misinformation in the political sphere, where forged documents can be used to create discord and attack public figures.
