The Edo State House of Assembly has officially summoned one of its members, Honourable Natasha Irobosa, to provide explanations for her recent conduct which has sparked widespread controversy online. The lawmaker, who represents the Egor Constituency and is married to iconic music star Innocent "2Baba" Idibia, was directed to appear before the Assembly's Committee on Ethics and Privileges.
Summons Issued During Plenary Session
The decision to summon the first-term legislator was made during the Assembly's plenary session on Tuesday. This action came as a direct response to videos circulating on social media platforms, which depicted the lawmaker in a situation the House deemed potentially embarrassing. The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, issued the directive, emphasizing that the Assembly could not ignore the incident.
Speaker Agbebaku stated that Hon. Natasha Irobosa must present herself before the committee within one week to address the allegations of misconduct linked to her actions. He stressed that the behaviour in question had negatively impacted the public's perception of the legislative chamber and that all members must uphold dignity at all times.
Speaker's Firm Stance on House Reputation
In his address to the Assembly, Speaker Agbebaku was unequivocal about the need to protect the institution's integrity. He described the House as an assembly of "cerebral minds" who should not be entangled in unnecessary scandals. The Speaker expressed disappointment that the actions of one member had brought the entire House into disrepute, a situation he said would not be tolerated.
"Hon. Natasha Irobosa has been summoned to appear before the Ethics and Privilege Committee of the Assembly due to her recent conduct which has been trending online," Agbebaku declared. He further explained, "This conduct drags the name of the House into the mud and it is the responsibility of the members of the Assembly to conduct themselves well."
Investigation Timeline and Public Scrutiny
The Committee on Ethics and Privileges has been tasked with a thorough investigation into the matter. The committee is expected to complete its probe and submit a formal report to the full House within two weeks. This process is anticipated to draw significant public attention, placing the conduct of the lawmaker under formal legislative review.
The controversy stems from a viral video that showed Hon. Irobosa engaged in a heated exchange with her husband, 2Baba. The clip ignited a firestorm of reactions and speculation across Nigerian social media, with many citizens questioning the nature of the dispute. Before her foray into politics, Natasha Irobosa was primarily known through her association with the entertainment industry. Her election was viewed as a fresh, community-focused voice for Egor Constituency, particularly on issues affecting women.
This summons adds another layer of public scrutiny to the lawmaker's life, which was recently in the news for a happier reason. In November, she and 2Baba welcomed their first child together, a baby boy, which she announced on her official Facebook page.
