Emir Sanusi Tells Kano Governor to Assert Authority

The 16th Emir of Kano, Dr. Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to remain resolute against individuals or groups attempting to destabilize the state or undermine constituted authority. Speaking during the traditional Sallah homage at the Government House in Kano as part of the Eid Kabir celebrations, the Emir emphasized the need for decisive action.

Emir's Call for Firm Leadership

According to Sanusi, “If anybody dares your government, show them the power of authority. We cannot continue to tolerate people who want to create chaos and undermine the government.” The former Central Bank of Nigeria governor stressed that Islamic teachings support responsible leadership and the protection of public peace and order.

Praise for Governor's Achievements

Sanusi applauded Yusuf’s accomplishments over the past two years, particularly in agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, and other critical sectors. “The Qur’an teaches that leaders should stand for their people, and you have demonstrated commitment to the people of Kano. Attempts to undermine lawful authority should be decisively dealt with,” the Emir stated.

He further declared full support for the administration, noting that the success of the government is a collective achievement for the people of Kano. “Your success is our success because we are from the same family. If your government succeeds in fulfilling its goals, it is a collective achievement for all of us,” he said.

Appeal for Federal Support

The Emir also appealed to the Federal Government to support key developmental projects in Kano, including the proposed light rail initiative, highlighting that the business community has continued to advocate for federal intervention.

Governor's Commitment to Development

Earlier, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering projects that will positively impact citizens across the state. He assured residents of the government's dedication to the “Kano First” agenda, aimed at building a modern and prosperous state.

According to the Governor, ongoing interventions in road construction, education, healthcare, agriculture, and youth empowerment would be expanded to cover more communities across Kano State. “We remain committed to policies and programmes that will directly improve the lives of our people. Our administration will continue to pursue the Kano First agenda relentlessly for the development of a modern Kano,” Governor Yusuf stated.

He also called on the traditional institution to continue supporting the government in promoting peace, unity, and development in the state.
