Timipre Sylva, the former governor of Bayelsa State and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources under the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari, is mourning the loss of his elder brother, Chief Johnbull Anagha Sylva.
The death was announced on Wednesday, May 6, by Julius Bokoru, an aide to the former minister, via a Facebook post. According to Bokoru, the elder brother of the former governor died on the same day, and a three-day Duwei Wari (Canopy Standing) ceremony will commence in his honor at 3pm.
Bokoru's statement read in part: "It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Chief Johnbull Anagha Sylva, immediate elder brother to His Excellency, Chief Timipre Marlin Sylva."
Chief Johnbull Anagha Sylva was a respected figure in Bayelsa State. The family has requested prayers during this difficult time. Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be released in the coming days.
