Arise TV Anchor Reuben Abati Launches Scathing Attack on FCT Minister
Prominent journalist and Arise TV anchor Reuben Abati has delivered a blistering critique of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, describing him as the 'Omo Onile of the FCT' and 'APC's political bouncer' during a broadcast on November 14.
Abati's sharp commentary came during his regular appearance on Arise Television, where he expressed serious concerns about Wike's approach to governance and land administration in the nation's capital.
Questioning Respect for Rule of Law
The veteran journalist cast doubts on Wike's claims of respecting legal procedures, accusing the minister of selectively obeying court orders while employing self-help methods during demolition exercises.
Abati specifically referenced several judgments concerning the Abuja Master Plan that he claims Wike has ignored in his pursuit of demolition activities across the territory.
'His claims of respecting the rules of law are doubtful,' Abati stated emphatically during the broadcast, highlighting what he perceives as contradictory behavior from the FCT minister.
Military Brass Condemns Wike's Actions
In a significant revelation, Abati disclosed that top military officers and security chiefs have united in their condemnation of Wike following his recent confrontation with naval officer Lieutenant A.M Yerima.
The dispute centered around a contested parcel of land in the Federal Capital Territory that sparked tensions between the minister and military establishment.
According to Abati's account, the Chief of Defence Staff, Defence Ministers, and Inspector General of Police have all expressed disapproval of Wike's handling of the situation with the naval officer.
Presidency Faces Embarrassment
Abati argued that Wike's series of confrontations has placed the Presidency in a difficult position, citing the minister's clashes with journalists, ongoing tensions with the military, and what he described as an 'overbearing attitude.'
The media personality emphasized that no public officer should consider themselves above the law, stressing that all government appointees must maintain proper decorum in their conduct.
He issued a direct appeal to President Bola Tinubu to caution his minister, underscoring the potential damage such controversies could cause to the administration's reputation.
'President Tinubu needs to call him to order,' Abati insisted, reminding viewers that public officials must operate within established legal and ethical boundaries.
