Atiku Attacks Tinubu's 3-Year Record: Propaganda Can't Fill Stomachs

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a sharp attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration as it marks three years in office. In a strongly worded statement issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the government's record as defined by economic hardship, insecurity, and worsening living conditions across Nigeria.

Atiku Delivers Harsh Verdict on Tinubu's Government

In the statement shared with Legit.ng, Atiku argued that the administration's achievements are not reflected in official celebrations but in the daily struggles of ordinary citizens. He said, "The Tinubu administration's three-year report card is written in hunger, poverty and the tears of abducted children." He accused the government of focusing on publicity instead of results, adding that Nigerians face the worst cost-of-living crisis in a generation.

Economic Hardship and Rising Poverty

Atiku claimed that inflation has made life difficult for millions, with food prices beyond the reach of ordinary households. He noted that small and medium businesses are collapsing under pressure, while unemployment and economic uncertainty continue to grow. He criticized the government for manufacturing statistics and staging elaborate ceremonies instead of delivering tangible improvements.

Questions Over Borrowing and Infrastructure Spending

A major part of Atiku's criticism focused on government borrowing. He alleged that the administration borrowed about N11.9 trillion within nine months but spent only N3.1 trillion on capital projects. He questioned, "Where did the rest of the money go?" He also raised concerns about major infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Badagry-Sokoto Highway, suggesting contracts were concentrated in the hands of a politically connected businessman.

Insecurity and School Abductions

Security was another key issue. Atiku pointed to the recent abduction of schoolchildren in Borno State and the mass kidnapping in Oyo State as evidence of failure. He stated, "What greater evidence of failure can there be than parents sending their children to school only to receive news that they have been abducted?" He argued that classrooms have become hunting grounds for criminals.

Call for Change

Atiku warned that Nigerians should not confuse patience with acceptance. He urged citizens to use the ballot box as a tool for change. He announced that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will soon present a policy blueprint addressing economic and security challenges, with reforms in job creation, education, healthcare, fiscal discipline, and governance. He concluded, "Nigerians have heard enough excuses. What they seek now is leadership that is competent, compassionate, accountable, and genuinely committed to the public good."
