Biographer Reveals 5 Cabals in Tinubu's Govt, Names Wike, Gbajabiamila
Author Lists 5 Cabals Influencing Tinubu's Government

In a revelation that has stirred political discourse, Charles Omole, the author of former President Muhammadu Buhari's official biography, has identified five distinct power blocs, or 'cabals,' operating within President Bola Tinubu's administration. Omole made these claims during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

From Buhari's Closet to Tinubu's Complex Web

The discussion followed the high-profile unveiling of the biography, "From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari," by President Tinubu at the State House on Monday, December 15. The book, featuring contributions from key figures like former First Lady Aisha Buhari, has been a major talking point. Omole, analyzing both administrations, stated that while Buhari's government had its influential inner circle, Tinubu's is more fragmented.

"Every government has its own cabals," Omole asserted, defining them as individuals close to the president who significantly influence his decisions. He contrasted the two presidencies, noting, "the cabals in Buhari's administration were just a group compared to that of Tinubu, which was five in number." This analysis, he clarified, is based on his own observation of the current government's dynamics.

The Five Power Centers Named

Omole proceeded to list the five groups he identifies as central to Tinubu's government. The first, he suggested, is led by President Tinubu himself, indicating his personal circle of confidants.

The second group comprises Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State. This pairing highlights a significant alliance within the presidency.

A third faction is centered around Seyi Tinubu, the president's son. Omole explained that Seyi's influence stems from "the number of people he has been able to plant within the presidency."

The fourth cabal is linked to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, a former three-term Senator representing Lagos Central, who is considered a powerful voice in administrative decision-making.

The final group consists of Tinubu's age-grade and long-time political allies. Omole emphasized that their longstanding relationship with the president makes it particularly difficult for him to disregard their counsel.

Implications of Multiple Cabals on Governance

Omole concluded his analysis with a warning about the operational impact of having multiple power centers. He opined that "the danger of multiple cabals in a government is that it slows down decision-making." This complexity, he implied, could hinder the efficiency and responsiveness of the Tinubu administration compared to its predecessor.

The interview has sparked renewed debate about the structure of power and influence in Nigeria's current government, with many observers scrutinizing the relationships and roles of the named individuals.
