The much-anticipated Enugu Economic Survival Summit has been officially rescheduled to hold in January 2026. This follows a last-minute court injunction that forced the postponement of its initial date in late November 2025.
Court Order Forces Schedule Change
The summit, organised by the Youths Off The Street Initiative (YOTSI), was originally planned for Sunday, 30 November 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel on Victoria Island, Lagos. However, the event was halted by an interim injunction from the Enugu State High Court. Hon. Justice A. R. Ozoemena issued the order on 27 November 2025 in Suit No. E/1121M/2025, which was filed by the Enugu State Government.
The court restrained the organisers from proceeding with the summit at the planned venue or any other location. This was pending the hearing of a motion on notice. The case has been adjourned to 8 December 2025, and the court granted leave for substituted service of the originating processes.
Summit Vision and New Focus for January
In a statement, YOTSI confirmed its commitment to the summit's core mission while pledging to comply fully with the judicial process. The group emphasised that civic participation remains central to its advocacy. The organisers view the postponement as an opportunity to strengthen stakeholder engagement ahead of the new date.
The summit carries the theme: “Enugu’s Economic Hemorrhage and the Critical Need for a 2027 Political Solution.” It is designed as a high-level forum to mobilise Enugu indigenes, democracy advocates, and development stakeholders. The goal is to chart a sustainable socio-economic future for the state.
Launch of Grassroots Movements and Key Agendas
The programme is expected to be a platform for launching structures like the Enugu Rescue Movement and the Yes-We-Can Movement. These initiatives aim to boost grassroots involvement in policy dialogue and development-focused political engagement.
According to the convener, Comrade Kennedy Iyere, the gathering is part of a broader effort to inspire a new development direction for Enugu State. Young people are positioned at the centre of this proposed reform. The summit will critically examine the economic vulnerabilities facing the state and explore strategic solutions ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
YOTSI has reassured attendees, partners, and supporters that preparations are ongoing. The summit remains a vital platform for discussing pressing issues such as:
- Economic governance
- Unemployment
- Insecurity
- Youth welfare
The organisers stated that while the event is delayed, the urgency of Enugu's economic concerns has not reduced. January 2026 now presents a crucial moment for citizens to engage and align on the state's path to recovery. A new specific date and an expanded agenda will be announced once the legal issues are clarified.
