The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a stern public warning, forcefully disowning a breakaway faction led by former Senate President, Senator David Mark. The party has alerted its members, the general public, and the international community to completely disregard a purported new national headquarters inaugurated by the group.
ADC Leadership Denounces Illegitimate Faction
In a decisive statement released on Monday, 17th November 2025, the authentic leadership of the ADC described the actions of the Mark-led faction as a blatant and illegal attempt to usurp the party's authority. The statement was signed by the National Chairman of the ADC, Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe.
Gombe emphasized that the splinter group possesses no constitutional, moral, or legal authority to speak for or represent the interests of the African Democratic Congress. He stated that the party's legitimate structure is built on a foundation of democracy, integrity, and the rule of law.
Key Points from the Official Statement
The party's National Working Committee (NWC), which is duly recognized by the party's constitution and a majority of its organs, laid out its position clearly.
The Faction is Illegitimate: The ADC labeled the group as an aggrieved splinter faction operating entirely outside the party's established structures. The party accused the group of resorting to these measures after failing to subvert the ADC's internal democratic processes for their personal ambitions.
The 'Headquarters' is Unauthorized: The party declared that the building being paraded as a new national headquarters is not the official seat of the African Democratic Congress. It was described as a private facility of an illegitimate association with no affiliation to the authentic ADC.
An Anti-Democratic Act: The ADC leadership condemned the move as a desperate and anti-democratic gambit. They asserted it is designed to create confusion, mislead the public, and represents a direct assault on the will of the party's membership, violating the party's constitution.
ADC Calls for Support and Legal Action
Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe made a direct appeal to Nigerians, party supporters, and key national institutions. He specifically called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the media to recognize and act only upon directives issued from the authentic ADC National Secretariat.
He reaffirmed the legitimate leadership's commitment to providing a credible political alternative for Nigeria. Gombe added that the party is actively pursuing all legal and constitutional avenues to restore order and sanction the actions of the breakaway group.
In related news, the ADC also criticized the Federal Government's request for a new loan of N1.15 trillion, labeling it as a sign of President Bola Tinubu's disturbing debt addiction. Meanwhile, the Senate Public Accounts Committee, led by Ahmed Wadada, has begun a review of stamp duty collections. Separately, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, Chancellor of Ekiti State University, has called for greater collaboration to accelerate Nigeria's transition into a trillion-dollar digital economy by 2030.
