APC Aspirant Rejects Kwara Reps Primary, Demands Fresh Poll

An aspirant for the All Progressives Congress House of Representatives ticket for Ekiti/Irepodun/Oke-Ero/Isin Federal Constituency in Kwara State, Hon. Chief Oluwasegun Olaoye, has rejected the outcome of the party’s primary election conducted on May 16, 2026. He described the process as invalid, compromised, and inconsistent with democratic principles.

Olaoye, who is the Babalaje of Oro Kingdom, made his position known in a petition addressed to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, the APC National Working Committee, the Kwara State APC Chairman, and the party’s Appeal Committee for the House of Representatives primary election.

According to the aspirant, no valid primary election took place across the wards within the federal constituency on the stated date. He alleged that there was no proper accreditation of delegates, no transparent voting process, and no credible collation of results in line with the APC Constitution, the party’s electoral guidelines, and provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

“The purported exercise fell far short of the standards expected of a democratic process and does not reflect the genuine will of APC members across Ekiti, Irepodun, Oke-Ero, and Isin Local Government Areas,” he stated.

Olaoye further alleged that the process was heavily compromised by irregularities capable of undermining the party’s internal democratic structure and electoral credibility within the constituency.

The grassroots politician reaffirmed his longstanding commitment to the APC, noting that he had contributed significantly to the growth and consolidation of the party in Kwara State over the years. He also described himself as one of the most widely accepted political figures within the constituency. According to him, he is the founder and principal of Team Olaoye, which he described as the largest APC political support group within the constituency and one of the strongest political structures in Kwara South.

The aspirant argued that a transparent and credible primary election would have produced a different outcome, citing what he described as his strong grassroots support and acceptance among party members.

Consequently, Olaoye called on the APC National Working Committee to nullify the outcome of the May 16 primary election and organise a fresh exercise under the direct supervision of the party’s National Secretariat. He urged the party leadership to ensure that any new primary election guarantees equal opportunities for all aspirants, proper accreditation procedures, secure voting, and transparent collation of results.

While reiterating his loyalty to the APC and its leadership at all levels, Olaoye maintained that his actions were aimed at protecting internal democracy, preserving party unity, and strengthening the APC’s electoral chances ahead of the general elections.

“I remain committed to the ideals and progress of our great party. My appeal is driven solely by the need to uphold justice, fairness, and the integrity of the APC,” he added.
