The All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, has stated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s withdrawal from the party's governorship primary in Rivers State was entirely his personal decision. He emphasized that the ruling party adhered strictly to due process throughout the entire exercise.
Voluntary Withdrawal After Screening
Yilwatda explained that the Rivers governor voluntarily stepped down from the governorship primary race after successfully completing the APC's screening process. He clarified that no external pressure or irregularity influenced Fubara's decision.
APC Committed to Fairness
The national chairman reiterated the APC's commitment to transparency and fairness in all internal elections. He assured party members that the primary was conducted in accordance with the party's constitution and guidelines.
Governor Fubara, who had initially expressed interest in the APC ticket, decided to withdraw, paving the way for other aspirants. The APC leadership has since called for unity and support for the eventual candidate.
This development has sparked discussions among political observers, with many viewing it as a strategic move ahead of the general elections. The APC continues to consolidate its position in Rivers State, a key battleground in Nigerian politics.
