The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially commenced a comprehensive electronic registration of its members across Ogun State, an initiative that has sparked political debate. Senator Salisu Afolabi Shuib, representing Ogun Central, has strongly championed the exercise, framing it as a crucial step to strengthen the party and enhance national security.
Senator Salisu Dismisses Labour Party's Allegations
During his own membership renewal at the Odeda Local Government area on 16 January 2026, Senator Salisu directly addressed claims of digital fraud leveled against the APC's e-registration by Labour Party chieftain, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi. He dismissed the allegations as baseless and misguided.
"You can only tag something a digital fraud if you are required to participate in it," Salisu stated. He suggested that the Labour Party should focus on its internal cohesion, saying, "I think they should spend more effort to go and determine whether they still have a party, and to also reconcile among themselves."
Drawing a sharp analogy, the senator added, "If Nigerians are doing national population census, which one concern Ghanaian with whether the exercise is a fraud? Okay, APC exercise is a fraud. Go and attempt to do your own." He emphasized that the registration is a legitimate effort by a party in power to solidify its mandate.
Three Pillars of the APC Digital Drive
Senator Salisu outlined the core objectives of the statewide e-registration, highlighting its significance beyond mere party politics. He maintained that the process is built on three fundamental pillars:
- Verifying Nigerian identities to create a reliable membership database and prevent proliferation.
- Highlighting the importance of digital infrastructure in modern governance and political organization.
- Representing a strategic move by the APC to leverage technology for party management and grassroots connection.
He argued that this tech-driven approach is key to securing Nigeria's identity framework and improving overall security by accurately verifying members. Salisu commended the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, stating that the exercise is actively transforming the political process and deepening the integration of technology with democracy.
Road Rehabilitation Project Kick-started
Separate from the political registration, Senator Salisu also used the occasion to kick-start the rehabilitation of a 7.5km abandoned road in his constituency. He assured residents that the project would be completed within one month, linking the infrastructure development to broader socio-economic benefits.
"It’s not just about fixing a road," he explained. "It’s about boosting the local economy, supporting farmers, and improving learning outcomes for students who need better access to schools." This dual focus on digital innovation and tangible developmental projects underscores the senator's current engagement strategy in Ogun Central.
