All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Yobe State have endorsed Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai as the party's consensus candidate for the Yobe South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections. The endorsement followed extensive consultations among party leaders, elders, and political stakeholders across the senatorial district, aimed at maintaining unity and cohesion within the APC in the state.
Affirmation Ceremony in Potiskum
The affirmation ceremony took place on Monday at the Federal College of Education Multipurpose Hall in Potiskum Local Government Area. It was conducted by the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Buba Mashio, in the presence of APC chieftains, youth groups, stakeholders, and supporters from various local government areas within the district. Party officials stated that the decision to adopt Bomai as the consensus candidate was reached after extensive consultations designed to prevent internal divisions and ensure a smooth political process ahead of the elections.
Bomai's Political Journey
Senator Bomai had earlier withdrawn from the Yobe governorship race before eventually emerging as the consensus candidate for the senatorial ticket. Supporters at the event expressed confidence in his ability to continue representing the district's interests, citing his political experience and contributions to the development of the APC in Yobe State.
Senator Bomai's Pledge
Addressing party members after the affirmation, Bomai thanked party leaders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him and pledged continued dedication to the service of the district. "I want to sincerely thank our party leaders, elders, stakeholders and supporters across Yobe South Senatorial District for the support and confidence they have reposed in me," he said. "I remain committed to serving our people diligently and ensuring that the interests of Yobe South continue to receive the attention they deserve."
Call for Unity
The senator also commended fellow aspirants and party loyalists for embracing peace and unity throughout the consultation process, describing their conduct as a demonstration of loyalty to the APC and its leadership. According to him, the willingness of party members to place collective interest above personal ambition would further strengthen the APC ahead of future elections. "I also commend all party faithful and aspirants who embraced unity and worked towards ensuring harmony within our great party. Their loyalty and commitment to the APC are highly commendable," Bomai added.
He urged stakeholders and supporters across the district to remain united and work collectively towards securing victory for the party in the forthcoming elections. "I call on all stakeholders and supporters to remain united and continue to work together as one political family as we prepare for the forthcoming general elections," he said.
Political Implications
Political observers in the state noted that Bomai's emergence as the consensus candidate could help reduce internal disputes within the APC in Yobe South, which is regarded as one of the party's strongholds. If re-elected in 2027, Bomai would return to the National Assembly for a third term, a feat that would make him the first senator from Yobe South Senatorial District to serve three consecutive terms. The development is also expected to influence political alignments within the state as parties intensify preparations ahead of the general elections.
