The All Progressives Congress (APC) conducted its primaries for the House of Representatives across Nigeria over the weekend, resulting in the children of former Nigerian leaders securing the ruling party's tickets.
At least two children of former presidents or heads of state have been declared winners in their federal constituencies. Additionally, three children of former governors have also clinched the party's tickets, continuing their fathers' political legacies.
List of Children of Former Leaders Who Won APC Reps Tickets
Yusuf Buhari
Yusuf, son of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, won the APC ticket to represent the Sandamu/Daura/Mai'adua Federal Constituency. Buhari, a former military head of state and civilian president, died in mid-2025. Yusuf entered politics after his father's death.
Adamu Abubakar
Adamu, son of former military head of state Abdulsalami Abubakar, secured the APC ticket for the Chanchaga Federal Constituency in Niger State. Abubakar governed Nigeria from 1998 to 1999 and handed over power to a democratically elected president.
Olumide Osoba
Olumide, son of former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba, won the ticket for Abeokuta North/Obafemi Owode/Odeda Federal Constituency. He has served as a federal lawmaker since 2011 and seeks a fourth term in 2027.
Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu
Erhiatake, daughter of former Delta State Governor James Ibori, secured the APC ticket for Ethiope Federal Constituency. She is currently a first-term lawmaker and seeks re-election.
Chinedum Orji
Chinedum, son of former Abia State Governor Theodore Orji, won the APC ticket for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.
APC Primaries Turn Violent in Some Areas
Violence erupted at APC primaries in Mushin LGA, Lagos, and Igabi LGA, Kaduna. In Mushin, clashes between loyalists of aspirants forced party members to flee. In Kaduna, angry youths abducted the APC chairman in Igabi due to dissatisfaction with the process.
