APC Clarifies Abia South Senatorial Ticket Winner
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has once again addressed the outcome of its recent primaries for the 2027 general elections, confirming that Erondu Uchenna Erondu emerged as the party's candidate for the Abia South Senatorial District.
In a statement released on Monday, June 1, 2026, and signed by the Abia State APC Chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, the party debunked rumours circulating in some quarters that Prince Paul Ikonne had secured the senatorial ticket. The party described these claims as false and intended to mislead party members and the public.
Details of the Primary Election
According to the statement, the APC Senatorial Primary Election for Abia South Senatorial District was conducted on May 18, 2026, across all 65 wards of the district, in full compliance with the party's constitution and guidelines. The results, as declared by Professor Erasmus Cishak, Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee, showed that Erondu Uchenna Erondu won with 15,982 votes. Other candidates received the following votes: Nyerere Chinenye Anyim (4,022), Honorable Dr. Blessing Nwagba (4,556), and Prince Paul Ikonne (4,322).
Having secured the highest number of votes by a significant margin, Erondu Uchenna Erondu was duly declared the winner and issued the official Declaration of Result Form by Professor Cishak, in accordance with the APC Constitution and Electoral Guidelines.
Party Upholds Primary Outcome
Chairman Chukwu emphasized that the APC will abide by the outcome of its primary election, which produced candidates for the 2027 elections. He insisted that the result remains valid, lawful, and binding, and will be respected and upheld by the National Working Committee (NWC) as per the party's established procedures.
The party urged members, including supporters of Prince Paul Ikonne, to refrain from spreading misinformation that could create confusion, disaffection, and unnecessary tension within the party.
Background on APC Presidential Ticket
Previously, President Bola Tinubu secured the APC presidential ticket for the 2027 elections, winning the party's primary by a landslide. This positions him for a re-election bid against opposition candidates such as Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar.
