APM Candidate Laja Adeoye Vows to Scrap Lagos GAC, Promises Reform
APM Candidate Laja Adeoye Vows to Scrap Lagos GAC

Adelaja Adeoye, the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the 2027 Lagos State election, has announced plans to dismantle the influential Governor's Advisory Council (GAC) if elected. He accuses the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of entrenching political control and candidate imposition since 1999.

RESET LAGOS Agenda 2027 Unveiled

Speaking at the unveiling of his RESET LAGOS Agenda 2027 on Sunday, May 17, Adeoye declared that Lagos residents are tired of the current political structure and demand transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness. "Lagos deserves better. The time has come for a genuine RESET," he stated.

Plan to Scrap the GAC

A key proposal is the abolition of the Governor's Advisory Council (GAC), a powerful body within Lagos APC politics that advises on major decisions, including leadership succession. Critics argue it wields excessive influence over candidate selection. Adeoye plans to replace it with a Lagos State Elders and Advisory Council comprising traditional rulers, religious leaders, market representatives, business figures, and former public office holders, aiming to make governance more inclusive.

Local Government Restructuring

Adeoye also proposes converting the state's 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) into full-fledged Local Government Areas (LGAs), increasing the total from 20 to 57. This would be accompanied by full local government autonomy to deepen grassroots development and improve service delivery.

Digital and Economic Reforms

The APM candidate promises to digitize the civil service and introduce performance-based reforms to enhance transparency and accountability. On infrastructure, he pledges investments in renewable energy, independent power projects, flood control, potable water, affordable housing, and the Fourth Mainland Bridge. Healthcare and education reforms will focus on public services, STEM education, and technical training.

Security and Investment

Adeoye aims to strengthen security through state and community policing, including support for Amotekun with technology-driven systems. He projects attracting up to $100 billion in foreign direct investment via public-private partnerships and alternative funding mechanisms.

Why He Left PDP

Explaining his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adeoye cited prolonged internal crises that hindered focus on governance issues. He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the judiciary, and security agencies to ensure a free and fair 2027 election.
