Fresh efforts to unite the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election appear to be gaining momentum following reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and fellow party chieftain Mohammed Hayatu-Deen have agreed to work together.
Reconciliation Gains Steam
The development was disclosed by Dino Melaye, who revealed that both politicians had resolved to join forces as the party intensifies preparations to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general election.
The latest move comes amid ongoing reconciliation efforts within the ADC after the party’s presidential primary, which generated controversy and disagreements among some aspirants over its conduct and outcome.
Addressing Internal Disputes
Hayatu-Deen had previously raised concerns about alleged irregularities during the primary process, while other contenders also expressed reservations. However, recent engagements among key stakeholders suggest the party is working to mend internal divisions and consolidate support ahead of the 2027 race.
The alliance between Atiku and Hayatu-Deen is expected to strengthen the ADC’s opposition campaign and project a more united front as political activities gradually gather momentum across the country.
