Former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami has been selected as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Kebbi State in the 2027 general elections. This announcement comes while Malami faces trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged corruption.
ADC Affirms Malami's Candidacy
The ADC officially affirmed Malami as its governorship flagbearer, alongside other candidates for various positions. Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami's Special Assistant on Media, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
According to Doka, retired military officer Aminu Bande will contest for Kebbi Central Senatorial District, while retired Deputy Comptroller-General Ibrahim Muhammad Mera is the ADC candidate for Kebbi North. Garba Danjuma Limi was also affirmed as the party's senatorial candidate for Kebbi South.
Party Confidence and Vision
Doka stated that ADC leaders, stakeholders, and supporters expressed confidence in the party's preparations for the next election cycle. He emphasized that the ADC remains committed to providing good governance, justice, security, and sustainable development for Kebbi State and Nigeria at large.
He called for unity and determination among party members, expressing optimism that the ADC would build a more prosperous future for generations to come.
Atiku's Message to ADC
Earlier, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar urged the ADC to select a competent and nationally appealing presidential candidate for 2027. He stressed the need for experience to rescue Nigeria from economic collapse and institutional decay, warning against sentiment-driven choices and advocating for strategic thinking to defeat the incumbent president.
