Rivers Governor's Brother Denies Placeholder Role in NDC Candidacy
Fubara's Brother Denies Placeholder Role in NDC

Blessing Fubara (Snr), the brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the governorship candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, has acknowledged that the governor is his brother but stated they do not share the same political ideology. However, the senior Fubara clarified that he is not serving as a placeholder for the governor in the NDC.

This clarification comes amid reports that Governor Fubara withdrew from the Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries due to the rift between him and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. There have been speculations that the senior Fubara was only acting as a placeholder for the sitting governor, ahead of his defection from the APC to the NDC.

Speaking in an interview on Super FM 93.3 in Port Harcourt on Saturday, May 23, the senior Fubara denied the rumor that he could be a placeholder for Governor Fubara. He added that the people of the state are familiar with his track record in politics. He emphasized that his declaration for the 2027 governorship race was unrelated to Governor Fubara's withdrawal from the APC primaries, stating that he has been nurturing the ambition to change the political narrative.

The senior Fubara's denial seeks to put an end to the speculation that his candidacy is merely a strategic move to keep the seat warm for his brother. He reiterated his commitment to his own political vision and urged the public to focus on his credentials and plans for the state.
