INEC Recognises Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as PRP National Chairman
INEC Updates Portal: Hakeem Baba-Ahmed Now PRP Chairman

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated its official portal to formally recognise Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). This recognition follows the party’s national convention, which was held in Abuja on March 28, 2026.

New Leadership Lineup

According to a statement from the PRP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, issued on Friday, the updated portal now reflects the newly elected leadership. Kanu Sunday Uchenna has been listed as the National Secretary, while Dr. Bayawo Yunusa Abdullahi emerged as the National Treasurer. Additionally, Mr. Chuka Patrick was recognised as the National Financial Secretary, and Barrister Vincent Danladi Okudu assumed the role of National Legal Adviser.

The PRP, one of Nigeria’s oldest surviving political parties, elected Baba-Ahmed to lead its National Working Committee (NWC) during the convention. Other key officials include Mallam Buhari Haruna as Deputy National Chairman (North), Comrade Muhammed Bello Ishaq as National Publicity Secretary, Haruna Nanven as National Organising Secretary, and Mallam Musa Buba as National Auditor.

Zonal Leaders Appointed

The new leadership also includes Ozu Important Fredrick as National Youth Leader, alongside zonal vice chairmen: Abubakar Hamanjoda (North East), Abba Namatazu (North West), Ifeanyi Peter Okafor (South East), and Olajide Wolimoh (South West). These appointments are part of the party’s restructuring ahead of future elections.

Controversy Surrounding the Convention

However, the emergence of the new leadership has not been without controversy. A group calling itself the “PRP-Vanguard Collective” rejected the convention’s outcome, labelling it a “sham.” The faction, led by Abdulmajid Yakubu Daudu, alleged an attempt to hijack the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. They also questioned Baba-Ahmed’s legitimacy, claiming he was not originally a member of the party and accusing the new leadership of aligning with external political interests.

In response, the PRP’s national leadership dismissed these claims, insisting that no faction exists within the party. They described the group as unknown elements and part of efforts to destabilise the party. The leadership reaffirmed the party’s unity and warned against what it termed external interference.

The update on INEC’s portal is seen as formal recognition of the new leadership, solidifying Baba-Ahmed’s position as the party’s national chairman.
