The nationwide electronic membership registration exercise by the All Progressives Congress (APC) is witnessing a dramatic surge, with Lagos State positioning itself to overtake Delta State as the national leader. This development comes as Ogun and Kano states officially joined the exercise, signalling a major push to consolidate the party's strength ahead of future elections.
Lagos Charges Ahead in Membership Drive
According to progress reports reviewed at a national stakeholders' meeting in Abuja, Lagos State has emerged as a major contender, rapidly climbing to second place nationally. The state only commenced its registration on January 5, 2026, yet it is already poised to surpass Delta State, which has had a three-month head start.
APC E-Registration Coordinator and Lagos State Organising Secretary, Ayodele Adewale, praised the unprecedented grassroots mobilisation. He stated that real-time data confirms Lagos is building strong organic membership numbers. "The reports are highly encouraging. The grassroots are awake, active, and fully engaged," Adewale said. He urged members to sustain efforts across all wards, emphasising that "victory is not something we drift into; it is earned deliberately and consistently."
Ogun State Launches with Focus on Transparency
In Ogun State, the e-registration exercise was officially flagged off yesterday. Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by his Deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, described the initiative as a major opportunity for members to deepen their commitment to the APC.
He highlighted that the digital process would eliminate manipulation and fraudulent practices, creating a credible and technology-driven membership database. "This will open the door for new members to proudly join the winning party," he stated. The Governor called on party leaders and stakeholders to ensure mass participation across the state.
Adding his voice, the state APC Chairman, Yemi Sanusi, urged members to view the exercise as a unifying and strengthening process for the party, rather than a personal venture.
Kano Strategises for Electoral Dominance
The Kano State chapter of the APC is taking a highly strategic approach. Following a midnight marathon stakeholders' meeting, the state emphasised that strengthening the e-registration is a critical step towards securing a decisive victory in the 2027 General Elections.
A statement issued by Muhammad Garba, Chief of Staff to former APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, noted the exercise is vital for building a comprehensive and verifiable database. This, they believe, will significantly boost the party's electoral performance nationwide. The meeting stressed that Kano's proactive participation builds on over fifteen years of loyalty and organisational influence in the state.
The concerted efforts by these key states underscore the APC's strategic focus on digitising its membership and consolidating its grassroots base. With Lagos challenging for the top spot and major states like Ogun and Kano fully onboard, the party is laying a formidable digital foundation for the upcoming political cycle.
