Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has officially launched the All Progressives Congress (APC) electronic membership registration exercise in the state, setting the pace by enrolling himself and his family.
Governor Leads by Example at Polling Unit
The flag-off ceremony took place on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at the governor's Motor Park II polling unit in Gudi, his country home within Akwanga Local Government Area. Governor Sule personally had his details captured to demonstrate the process, urging his constituents to follow suit.
He directly linked active political participation to the development initiatives his administration has brought to Gudi. "Development would only come to Gudi if the people participated actively in politics," Sule stated, admonishing the people to turn out en masse for the registration.
Implementing Presidential Directive and State Consensus
The governor revealed that the e-registration drive is a direct implementation of a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He recalled that the decision was taken at the APC's National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja just the previous week, which the President attended.
Governor Sule expressed pride that Nasarawa State had moved swiftly beyond just starting the registration. The state's APC has already concluded arrangements to conduct all its upcoming congresses—from ward to state level—through a consensus agreement. This decision was unanimously reached by Tuesday, a day before the Gudi flag-off.
Party Leadership Applauds Governor's Support
In his remarks, the Nasarawa State APC Chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello, commended Governor Sule for his unwavering financial and moral support to the party's vision. Dr. Bello explained the rationale behind the new digital system, noting it is designed to tackle low voter turnout among registered party members.
He lamented a significant disparity from the last election cycle, revealing: "the APC registered over 60 million members, but only 15 million participated in the general election." The e-registration, he clarified, is currently open only to individuals who already possess a voter's card, linking party membership directly to electoral participation.
The Chairman of Akwanga Local Government and ALGON representative, Safiyanu Isa Andaha, also praised Governor Sule's leadership style, crediting it for expanding the APC's reach into areas previously considered opposition strongholds within the state.
Governor Sule described the e-registration, which replaces the old paper-based method, as a grassroots activity. He further connected it to the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), stating it provides an opportunity for citizens to update their details and conveniently fulfill their civic duties.
