NDC Extends Form Collection for Legislative, Governorship Aspirants

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced an extension of the deadline for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for aspirants seeking elective positions in the upcoming 2027 elections. Initially set to close at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the deadline has been moved to midnight on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

This extension applies to aspirants contesting for positions in the State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and Governorship. The decision was communicated in a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, and posted on the party’s X account on Monday morning.

According to the statement, the extension aims to provide more aspirants with the opportunity to complete the process. It reads: “The deadline for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for the State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and Governorship positions… has been extended to 12:00 midnight on Sunday, 24th May, 2026.”

However, the party confirmed that the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for the office of the President has officially closed. Under the revised timetable, the screening of aspirants who have purchased and completed the forms will commence on Tuesday, May 19, and conclude on Tuesday, May 26.

The party further stated: “The collection and return of Nomination Forms for all screened and cleared aspirants will begin on Wednesday, 20th May, 2026, and close on Tuesday, 26th May, 2026.”

All aspirants are required to undergo screening and pre-qualification interviews at designated venues across the country. They must present educational certificates, birth certificates or declarations of age, passport photographs, voter cards, party membership cards, and copies of their curriculum vitae. All documents submitted to the Screening Committee must be provided in six copies each.

The party also directed the screening committee to adhere to its affirmative action policy for women, youths, and persons living with disabilities. Additionally, the NDC encouraged consensus-building among aspirants, emphasizing that only those successfully screened and cleared would be eligible to purchase nomination forms.

The statement concludes: “All aspirants are required to ensure strict compliance with the deadline, as no extension will be granted beyond the closing date.”
