The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), under the leadership of Senator Seriake Dickson, has officially unveiled former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections. The announcement was made on May 30 during a special convention held in Abuja.
Obi's Emergence at the Convention
Peter Obi emerged as the party's flagbearer at the special convention, which was attended by party delegates and officials. His candidacy marks a significant development in the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
Defection to NDC
Obi had earlier defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC on May 3, paving the way for his nomination. The move was seen as a strategic alignment aimed at consolidating opposition forces.
The NDC leadership expressed confidence in Obi's ability to lead the party to victory, citing his track record as a former governor and his commitment to national development.
