The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly initiated contact with Newcastle United striker William Osula to convince him to represent the Super Eagles instead of Denmark. The 22-year-old forward, who has impressed in the Premier League, remains uncapped at senior level, making him eligible for Nigeria.
NFF Targets Osula for Long-Term Plans
According to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, the NFF has identified Osula as a key part of Nigeria's rebuilding strategy under head coach Eric Chelle. The Super Eagles are preparing for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup cycle, and Osula's age and form make him an attractive option.
Osula, born in Copenhagen to a Nigerian father and Danish mother, is also eligible for England and France. He scored a decisive winner against Manchester United recently, raising his profile. Despite being named in Denmark's senior squad, he did not play, leaving his international future open.
Nigeria's Competitive Attack
Nigeria boasts established forwards like Victor Osimhen, Akor Adams, and Paul Onuachu. However, Osula offers pace, strength, and pressing ability, adding depth for the future. If he commits, he would join fellow dual nationals like Ademola Lookman and Alex Iwobi.
Denmark's failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup may influence Osula's decision. The NFF's approach could be crucial in securing the young striker for Nigeria's next generation.
