Kenneth Okonkwo Declares: Obidients Outside ADC Are 'DisObidients'
Okonkwo: Obidients not in ADC are 'DisObidients'

A prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has issued a strong directive to supporters of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi. He insists they must officially register with the ADC to be recognized as genuine followers ahead of the 2027 general elections.

From Obidient to 'DisObidient': A New Litmus Test

During an appearance on Channels Television's The Morning Brief, Okonkwo drew a clear line in the sand. He stated that any supporter of Peter Obi who has not joined the ADC can no longer be considered a true 'Obidient'. He controversially labeled such individuals as "disObidients."

"If you are an Obidient and you're not in the ADC, sorry, you're not an Obidient, you are a disObidient," Okonkwo declared emphatically.

The lawyer and politician revealed that this stance aligns with a recent tactical shift by Peter Obi himself. Okonkwo referenced an interview Peter Obi conducted on X Space, where the former presidential candidate reportedly directed his supporters to register as ADC members.

"When I was in the Labour Party, I said it was a tactical mistake to tell your followers they could join all political parties. I am glad that my brother, Peter Obi, has now changed that tactic," Okonkwo explained, welcoming the new approach.

The ADC as the 'Vehicle of Good People'

Okonkwo passionately advocated for the ADC, describing it as a credible opposition platform and a "vehicle of good people." He emphasized that the party has strong foundational support in Nigeria's South-East region.

He outlined the party's core principle: internal democracy and strict adherence to democratic principles. "Anybody you see in the ADC is allowed to join on one condition: you must be a true democrat. One thing the ADC will not compromise on is internal democracy," he stated.

Okonkwo further clarified that the ADC does not allow leaders to impose special conditions on new members. He highlighted discipline and a solid foundation as the party's key values.

Political Realignment and 2027 Calculations

Okonkwo's comments included a stark political warning. He claimed that the South-East region has now aligned with the ADC and suggested a binary political choice.

"Now, the South-East has gone ADC, as I said they would. Any politician who is not in the ADC and is working with another party is working for Tinubu," he asserted, directly linking opposition outside the ADC to support for President Bola Tinubu.

Regarding Peter Obi's own position and the 2027 presidential ticket, Okonkwo expressed full support for the party's internal processes. He welcomed Obi's move to the ADC and pledged to support whoever emerges as the party's presidential candidate.

"He is an ADC member, and we work with every ADC member. Rest assured, whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the ADC, I will work for the person. I don't have any personal rift with anyone," Okonkwo said, promoting party unity. He also noted that the ADC has not finalized a decision on zoning its presidential ticket.
