2027: Olubadan warns aspirants against relying on political godfatherism
Olubadan warns aspirants on political godfatherism in 2027

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has cautioned political aspirants against depending on godfatherism to win elections in 2027. Speaking on Wednesday at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, the monarch stated that while politicians are free to use his name for visibility, it will not guarantee victory.

Voters Decide, Not Names

Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, emphasized that the electorate will ultimately choose leaders based on performance, credibility, and people-oriented programmes. He described all politicians and residents as his children, adding that he does not discriminate in granting support.

“Let them use my name to promote themselves if it is meaningful to them, but the people will decide who governs them at the end of the day, not my name,” he said.

Focus on Competence and Service

The monarch advised aspirants to prioritize impactful programmes and genuine service over endorsements. He noted that voters in Oyo State value competence and democratic dividends more than political associations.

Security Situation in Oyo State

Commenting on the recent abduction of pupils in Oriire Local Government Area, Oba Ladoja acknowledged efforts by the government and security agencies to secure the victims' release. He explained that security operations are often kept confidential to avoid jeopardizing rescue missions.

“Government and security agencies are trying their best. It’s just that they won’t disclose everything they are doing for security reasons,” he added.
