Oyetola Urges End to Political Violence in Osun, Warns Adeleke
Oyetola Demands End to Osun Political Violence

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has called for an immediate end to political violence in Osun State. He also cautioned Governor Ademola Adeleke against what he described as persistent blackmail and false accusations regarding recent security incidents in the state.

Oyetola Condemns Attacks on APC Members

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Bolaji Akinola, Oyetola condemned recent attacks on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), labeling the incidents as unfortunate and unacceptable in a democratic society. He stressed that political contests should not degenerate into intimidation, violence, or bloodshed.

Call for Peaceful Conduct

While urging political actors to embrace peaceful conduct, Oyetola accused Governor Adeleke of repeatedly making allegations against him and the APC without evidence. He warned that such actions could heighten political tensions in the state. “He should stop blackmailing me and stop deceiving the public with false accusations. The people know the truth, and no amount of propaganda can change it,” the minister said.

Oyetola further alleged that attempts to politicize security challenges would not distract from the need to address violence and ensure the protection of lives and property across the state. The former governor maintained that no amount of propaganda or diversionary tactics would alter the political choices of the people ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

Security Agencies Urged to Maintain Order

He called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies to maintain law and order throughout the campaign period. He emphasized the need to guarantee the safety of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation. Oyetola also sympathized with victims of the attacks and reiterated that democracy must be anchored on peace, fairness, and respect for the rule of law.

Recent Attacks in Osun

According to reports, suspected thugs allegedly linked to the Accord Party attacked APC supporters in Owode-Ede and other parts of Osun State as they returned from a rally in Ile-Ife held in support of the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. This incident occurs ahead of the August 15 governorship election, amid heightened political activities and increasing concerns over security as campaigns gather momentum.
