Plateau groups clash over Wase's 20-year tenure in NASS

Constituents of Wase Federal Constituency in Plateau State have protested against the 20-year tenure of Idris Ahmad Wase in the National Assembly, calling for equitable political inclusion. The protest, organized by the Wase Progressives For Equity, Unity and Inclusive Governance, took place peacefully in Wase town, drawing participants from the four districts of Wase, Lamba, Bashar, and Kadarko.

Protest Demands

The group, comprising stakeholders, community leaders, and youth, carried placards with inscriptions such as "20-Years-Is-Enough" and "Let Leadership Rotate." In a communique read by Gunshin Yarlings, Secretary of the Concerned Forum, they demanded rotational representation through zoning, noting that the House of Representatives position has been held by Ahmed Idris Maje from Bashar District for over two decades. The demands were presented to APC Local Government Chairman Yusuf Shagari, who pledged to relay them to party stakeholders.

Counter Movement

In response, the Wase Equity Project (WEP), comprising community leaders, professionals, and youth advocates, announced plans to purchase the APC expression of interest and nomination forms for Wase. A statement by publicity secretary Mohammed Abubakar Badu indicated that funds were raised through a crowdfunding initiative launched on March 29, 2026, describing it as a collective "Thank You" for Wase's developmental strides.
