Tambuwal Reacts to Claims He May Quit Politics

Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has addressed speculation about his political future following his withdrawal from the 2027 senatorial race. The former Sokoto State governor, who currently represents Sokoto South in the Senate, clarified that he is not exiting politics.

Tambuwal Steps Down for Faruk Yabo

Tambuwal withdrew from the contest to allow Faruk Malami Yabo, a former commissioner for finance, local government, and community development, to run on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform. The senator explained that his decision was driven by a desire to promote youth inclusion and leadership renewal.

Speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today on Friday, May 15, Tambuwal said: "I decided that I should allow my brother, Ambassador Faruk Malami Yabo, to come and take the ticket of the ADC in our senatorial district, in appreciation of his support for me and the fact that I believe he can also do a good job."

Commitment to Youth and Leadership

Tambuwal emphasized his belief in bringing up new leaders, noting that about eight of the party's candidates for the House of Representatives are below 50 years old. "We must make sacrifices. We must allow some other people to come on board. It's part of what I believe in terms of leadership recruitment," he added.

Ibrahim Lamido, senator representing Sokoto East, also reportedly stepped down following a reconciliation agreement among party stakeholders. The ADC has yet to announce its candidate for the Sokoto East senatorial district.

Tambuwal Remains Active in Politics

Addressing claims that he might quit politics, Tambuwal stated: "I am not leaving politics. I will remain very, very active. I'm going to work assiduously for the victory of our party in Sokoto state."

In March, Tambuwal joined the ADC after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He said his move was driven by the need for a stronger political platform built on integrity, inclusiveness, accountability, and commitment to national development.

The senator reaffirmed his dedication to serving Nigeria and upholding democratic ideals. He previously warned that the country has strayed from the democratic principles envisioned by its founders and requires urgent rescue.
