Tinubu Inaugurates High-Powered APC Committee for 2027 Elections, Unity Drive
Tinubu sets up APC committee to heal rifts for 2027 polls

President Bola Tinubu has taken a decisive step to solidify the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the next general elections. On Wednesday, December 24, 2025, in Lagos, he inaugurated a high-level Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation.

Committee Mandate and Key Members

The primary goal of this committee is to tackle internal disagreements, strengthen party unity, and develop a robust mobilisation strategy to ensure the APC's continued dominance in the 2027 general elections. The body is composed of influential figures from across the nation's political landscape.

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State will chair the committee. Muiz Banire, a former National Legal Adviser for the APC, has been appointed as the Member/Secretary.

The committee's membership reflects a broad coalition of power centres within the party. It includes serving governors such as Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta). Also on the list are Governors Uba Sani (Kaduna) and Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers).

Federal Executive Council representation comes from the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle. The committee also includes former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, and Senator Adamu Aliero.

A Proactive Approach to Party Harmony

Speaking after his inauguration, Chairman Mai Mala Buni thanked President Tinubu and the party leadership for the trust placed in the committee. He pledged a responsible and committed execution of their assignment.

Buni outlined the committee's plan to engage in wide-ranging consultations to create an inclusive and durable framework for managing party affairs. "We shall implement a system that gives everyone, especially aggrieved parties, a sense of belonging and inclusion, with a renewed hope," he stated.

He emphasised a proactive stance, noting that identifying potential flashpoints and preventing conflicts would be as crucial as resolving existing ones. Buni cautioned all members to prioritise the collective interest of the APC over personal sentiments or ambitions.

Tinubu's Call for Tolerance and Unity

The committee's creation follows a strong appeal for unity made by President Tinubu days earlier. At the APC's 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Friday, December 19, in Abuja, the President reminded party leaders of the APC's foundational principles: progressive politics, inclusiveness, and respect for diverse opinions.

He warned that internal intolerance could damage the party's democratic credentials. "We must continue to be resolute that this democracy that we take in our hands must not fail... we must be tolerant," Tinubu urged attendees at the State House Conference Centre.

With the 2027 electoral cycle already on the horizon, party insiders see this committee as a critical intervention. It is expected to begin work immediately, aiming to consolidate unity and prepare the APC for what is anticipated to be a highly competitive election season.
