Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has stated that President Bola Tinubu would secure a comfortable victory in the 2027 presidential election if only members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were permitted to vote. Uzodinma made this assertion on Saturday while reacting to what he described as an impressive turnout of party members during the ongoing APC presidential primary in Orlu East Local Government Area of Imo State.
Uzodinma Highlights Tinubu's Achievements
The governor argued that the level of support within the ruling party reflects Tinubu's strength and performance in office. He added that the president has "done enough" to merit a second term. "It's very obvious that Tinubu has done enough to deserve going back for a second term. Look at how the grassroots have been stimulated, starting from the membership registration, which was done electronically, to the validation of members," Uzodinma said.
APC's Internal Structure Could Secure Victory
Uzodinma further claimed that the APC's internal structure and membership base alone could deliver victory for the president if restricted to party loyalists. "You can see 35,000 human beings in just one ward in Orlu East Local Government. If only our party members (APC) vote for President Tinubu, he has already won the election because the membership registration, as conducted by the APC, took care of grassroots inclusiveness, and today it is manifest in our democratic situation in Nigeria," he added.
Governor Commends Democracy and Tinubu's Leadership
Uzodinma also commended Nigerians for sustaining democratic governance and praised Tinubu's leadership style, describing it as aligned with the principles of party politics. "Today, I want to congratulate Nigerians for sustaining democracy, and I also want to congratulate Tinubu for doing politics the way it should be done," he said.
Call for Stronger Opposition
However, he urged opposition parties not to be discouraged, insisting that a healthy democracy requires competition and stronger political engagement ahead of future elections. "It's no longer democracy if there is no opposition. I encourage opposition parties to work hard and do what the ruling party has done. When it becomes their turn, they will elect their own president," he said.
