1,872 Candidates Write Police Constable Exams in Delta

No fewer than 1,872 shortlisted candidates successfully sat for the Police Constable Examination in Delta State on Tuesday, 10 May 2026, as part of the ongoing nationwide police recruitment exercise. The examination was conducted by the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) at the Dome Event Centre in Asaba.

Federal Government Recruitment Drive

The exercise is part of the Federal Government's broader initiative to recruit 50,000 police constables across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This directive was issued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen internal security and improve effective policing nationwide.

Candidates from all 25 local government areas of Delta State participated under tight security and strict supervision by PSC and Force Headquarters officials. The monitoring team was led by Anthonnette Ofugare alongside DCP Rita Emesim from Abuja, ensuring a transparent and merit-based process.

Commissioner of Police Commends Process

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, made an unscheduled visit to the examination centre and expressed satisfaction with the orderly conduct. He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for establishing a standing committee dedicated to youth enlistment into military and paramilitary services, describing it as a commendable initiative worthy of emulation by other states.

The committee has played a strategic role in mobilising and sensitising young people in Delta State to embrace career opportunities in security services.

Candidates Express Optimism

Several candidates who spoke after the examination expressed optimism about their performance and praised the transparent nature of the exercise. Many described the process as well-organised, free of irregularities, and professionally coordinated, boosting their confidence in the fairness of the recruitment.

The Acting Chairman of the Delta State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment into Military and Paramilitary Services, Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, described the exercise as credible, peaceful, and result-oriented. He expressed confidence that Delta State would successfully fill its allocated quota of 1,351 police constables.

Oghenesivbe disclosed that candidates who pass the examination stage will proceed to medical screening, the next phase of the recruitment process. He added that the state government would intensify public enlightenment campaigns to encourage more youths to join military and paramilitary services, thereby reducing unemployment and strengthening national security institutions.

The nationwide police recruitment exercise is expected to boost manpower within the Nigeria Police Force amid growing concerns over insecurity and the need for improved community policing across the country.
