600 CSOs Demand Wike's Sack Over Naval Incident

More than six hundred civil society organizations have united to demand the immediate dismissal of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike. This forceful call for action comes as a direct response to the minister's public confrontation with a naval officer during an official visit in Abuja, an incident the coalition has labeled as reckless and unacceptable.

Coalition Backs Buratai's Stance

The groups, operating as the Good Governance Network (GGN), have declared their full support for the former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (retd.). General Buratai had previously condemned the minister's behavior and urged for disciplinary measures. In a joint statement signed by Comrade Usman Danladi, the coalition stated it stands in uncompromising solidarity with Buratai's call for decisive action against Wike.

The communiqué specifically referenced the event on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, where Wike was allegedly heard calling the officer a fool. The CSOs described this as a gross act of indiscipline and arrogance that is unbecoming of a public officeholder.

Warnings of Impunity and Demands for Action

The coalition issued a stark warning, stating that failure by the federal government to sanction the minister would send a dangerous message of impunity within its ranks. They argued that such inaction could undermine morale within the armed forces and embolden other officials to disrespect national institutions.

To address the situation, the coalition presented a list of clear demands:

  • The immediate dismissal of Nyesom Wike from his position as FCT Minister.
  • A formal public apology to President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the naval officer involved.
  • An independent investigation into the minister's conduct.
  • Possible suspension pending the outcome of the inquiry.
  • Mandatory civil-military relations training for all political office holders.

The groups vowed to remain vigilant, promising to monitor, follow up, and mobilize until justice is served. They praised General Buratai for speaking truth to power and defending the dignity of the Nigerian military.
