Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has launched a strong critique against President Bola Tinubu's administration over its handling of Nigeria's escalating security situation, declaring that the government lacks the political determination to stop the rising wave of violence across the nation.
Security Failures and Recent Attacks
In a statement released on Wednesday, November 19, Amaechi pointed to several recent security incidents as evidence of systemic failure. He specifically condemned the abduction of 25 students in Kebbi State, the tragic killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State, and the recent bandits' attack on a church in Kwara State.
The former minister described these incidents as clear indications that the government is failing in its most fundamental responsibility - protecting citizens' lives and property. He expressed deep concern about the frequency of violent attacks occurring across multiple states within short timeframes.
Government's Lack of Political Will
"It is clear that the government in power has no political will to curb the incessant killings and terrorist attacks plaguing our country today," Amaechi stated emphatically. He warned that the administration's inability to take decisive action has dangerously emboldened terrorists and significantly eroded public trust in security institutions.
Amaechi highlighted that within just one week, Nigeria witnessed multiple devastating attacks spanning Plateau, Kebbi, Borno, Kwara, and Kaduna states. This pattern of violence, according to him, demonstrates a complete breakdown in national security coordination and response mechanisms.
Direct Message to President Tinubu
The former Rivers State governor delivered a pointed message directly to President Tinubu, reminding him that "your primary assignment is the security of lives and property." He criticized what he described as the administration's tendency to issue weak statements of condemnation while failing to take concrete action.
Amaechi also questioned the President's travel priorities amid the escalating security crisis, emphasizing that true leadership requires making tough decisions and taking decisive action during times of national emergency.
He called for comprehensive reforms in security response protocols, improved intelligence gathering capabilities, and enhanced tactical operations by military forces. "The Federal Government needs to step up its game, sharpen its response to terrorist activities, strengthen military intelligence and tactical operations, and live up to the expectations of its people," he urged.

Concluding his statement, the former minister offered his expertise and assistance to the Tinubu administration, drawing from his experience in tackling security challenges during his tenure as Rivers State governor. "We did it in Rivers State; it can be done in the country. We are prepared to help if you request help," Amaechi declared.
