APC Chairman Yilwatda Declares Party Nigeria's Most Youthful Political Platform
In a significant statement reinforcing the party's demographic strength, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has officially declared the ruling party as Nigeria's most youth-driven political platform. Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday after undergoing screening by the APC screening panel ahead of the party's national convention, Yilwatda emphasized the APC's unwavering commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and inclusiveness.
Institutionalized Due Process and System Over Individuals
Yilwatda detailed that the APC has successfully institutionalized due process, ensuring that all members, regardless of their status or position, are subject to the party's established rules and operational systems. "In APC, everybody is subject to the system and how it operates. The system prevails over individuals," he stated firmly. He commended the convention committees for their exceptional coordination and unity, noting that unlike many other political parties in Nigeria, the APC has managed to avoid internal conflicts and public disagreements throughout its convention processes.
Youth Dominance and Technological Advancements
Highlighting recent membership data, Yilwatda revealed a striking statistic: over 50 percent of the APC's members are between the ages of 18 and 35. This underscores the party's strong appeal among young Nigerians. In contrast, only about 18 percent of members are aged 50 and above. "It shows clearly that we have the youth on our side and that the party has a future," he asserted. He added that the party's adoption of technology-driven membership registration has significantly strengthened its data capabilities and strategic positioning, enabling more effective outreach and engagement.
Gender Inclusion and Nationwide Presence
On the issue of gender representation, Yilwatda acknowledged that women remain underrepresented in the National Assembly but assured that the APC is actively working to improve inclusion. He pointed to the implementation of the 35 percent affirmative action policy within party structures, particularly in convention committees, as concrete evidence of ongoing efforts to empower women politically. Furthermore, Yilwatda asserted that the APC is the only political organization with a strong presence across all six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. He cited recent by-election victories in states and regions including Kano, Zaria, Adamawa, the South-West, South-South, and South-East as proof of the party's extensive nationwide reach. "No political party has achieved this in the past year," he claimed confidently.
Internal Dispute Resolution and Party Loyalty
Yilwatda also highlighted the party's ability to resolve internal disputes through arbitration rather than litigation, noting that no court cases have arisen from recent congresses at local, state, and zonal levels. "This shows that APC is a party of system, and members believe in the processes we follow," he explained. Reiterating the party's stance on loyalty and structure, he stressed that the APC prioritizes committed membership over informal affiliations. "We don't believe in 'friends of the party.' We believe in members of the party, because membership comes with obligations," he added, emphasizing the importance of dedicated participation.
Gratitude and Future Outlook
In closing, Yilwatda thanked party members and Nigerians for their continued support, expressing optimism that the APC will build on its achievements and secure strong victories in future elections. He praised party stakeholders, including governors, lawmakers, and members of the executive arm, for their support over the past eight months, which he said has contributed significantly to the party's growth and consolidation. With its youthful base, technological edge, and nationwide appeal, the APC aims to maintain its position as a leading force in Nigerian politics.
