APC Chieftain Denies Anti-Tinubu Claims in South-East, Hails Uzodimma's Neutrality

A prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, Obioma Success Akagburuonye, has strongly refuted assertions that the South-East region is broadly opposed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a recent interview, Akagburuonye called on Nigerians to support Tinubu's anticipated second-term campaign in 2027, describing claims of regional resistance as exaggerated and misleading.

Challenging the Narrative of Opposition

Akagburuonye, who is also a gubernatorial aspirant for Imo State in 2027, argued that the political landscape in the South-East contradicts the notion of widespread anti-Tinubu sentiment. He pointed out that the APC currently governs three of the five states in the region, which he believes demonstrates tangible support for the party and the President.

"The opinion of a few individuals should not be mistaken for the position of an entire region," he stated. "If the APC presently governs three out of the five South-East states, it clearly shows that the claim that the Igbo people are entirely against Tinubu and the APC is not correct."

Commending Governor Uzodimma's Stance

In addition to addressing the Tinubu issue, Akagburuonye praised Governor Hope Uzodimma for maintaining what he termed a neutral and dignified approach in the emerging contest to succeed him. He emphasized that Uzodimma's refusal to publicly endorse any candidate has fostered a fair and competitive environment for all aspirants.

"Uzodimma believes power ultimately comes from God and the people," Akagburuonye explained. "By leaving the process open, he has allowed individuals with vision and capacity to present themselves to the electorate."

Asserting Independence in Political Ambition

Akagburuonye also dismissed allegations that his gubernatorial ambition is influenced by Uzodimma, asserting his independence. "If anyone describes me as the governor's stooge, I wish the person well," he remarked. He cautioned fellow aspirants against relying solely on political patronage, endorsements, or financial clout, stressing that effective leadership in Imo State demands competence and credibility beyond mere connections.

This statement comes amid ongoing political discussions in the South-East, highlighting the complexities of regional dynamics and the upcoming electoral cycles. Akagburuonye's remarks aim to reshape perceptions and encourage a focus on merit-based political engagement.
