Atiku Slams Tinubu Over Escalating Violence and Unfulfilled Security Promises
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a sharp criticism against President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of failing to uphold his commitment to prevent repeat terrorist attacks following a recent surge in violence across multiple Nigerian states. In a strongly worded statement posted on his official X account on Monday, Atiku highlighted a series of deadly incidents that have occurred within days, undermining Tinubu's earlier assurance that the Angwan Rukuba attack in Plateau State would not recur.
Fresh Attacks in Benue, Nasarawa, and Kaduna States
Atiku pointed to new killings in Benue State, where over a dozen lives were lost in Mbalom, as well as displacements in Nasarawa communities where families fled on foot due to threats of attack, and additional assaults in Kaduna State over the weekend. He expressed deep concern over these developments, stating that they reflect a hollow promise from the President. "I wish to remind President Bola Tinubu to keep to his words that 'this (Angwan Rukuba attack) will not repeat itself.' It does appear that those words are hollow because barely 72 hours, another attack in Benue State claimed over a dozen lives," Atiku said.
Call for Action and Governance Challenges
Emphasizing the primary responsibility of government to protect lives and property, Atiku urged Tinubu to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive action. "The Commander-in-Chief should brace up to the challenges of governance. I am also concerned, like all well-meaning Nigerians, about what is going on in a Nasarawa community where families had fled on foot amid threats of attack," he added. Atiku further stressed that it is time for the President to "fold your sleeves and get to work," calling for an end to empty promises and a focus on tangible security measures.
Condolences and National Welfare
In his statement, Atiku also extended his thoughts and prayers to the families affected by the attacks, acknowledging the loss and suffering endured. He reiterated that the promotion of citizen welfare must be a top priority, urging the government to address the ongoing security crises with urgency and effectiveness to restore safety and stability across the nation.
