Atiku Urges Tinubu to Act on Security, Halt Rhetoric After Fresh Killings
Atiku Tells Tinubu: Suspend Rhetoric, Act on Killings

Atiku Demands Action from Tinubu Amid Escalating Security Crisis

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a stern call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to move beyond empty rhetoric and take decisive action to address the recent wave of violent attacks across Nigeria. This appeal follows a series of deadly incidents recorded over the weekend in states including Plateau, Kaduna, and Benue.

Reference to Presidential Promise

In a statement released on April 6, Atiku referenced a promise made by President Tinubu during a meeting with grieving family members of victims from the Angwan Rukuba attack in Jos, Plateau State. At that meeting, held at Yakubu Gowon Airport in Jos, the President stated, "To the victims, there is nothing I can give you, whether in billions of naira, but I can console you and promise that this experience will not repeat itself."

Escalation of Violence Post-Promise

Atiku pointed out that less than 48 hours after this assurance, killings not only recurred in Plateau but also spread to Kaduna, Katsina, Benue, and Nasarawa states. He emphasized that these events highlight a failure to uphold the commitment, with a fresh attack in Benue State claiming over a dozen lives within 72 hours of the promise.

Call for Governance and Responsibility

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain tasked President Tinubu to "roll up his sleeves and get to work," stressing that the primary responsibility of government is the protection of lives and property, along with the promotion of citizen welfare. Atiku expressed concern over situations in Nasarawa, where families fled on foot amid threats, and Kaduna, which experienced another attack over the weekend.

He concluded by urging the Commander-in-Chief to brace up to governance challenges, stating, "Enough of these hollow rhetoric, Mr. President. It is time to fold your sleeves and get to work." This call underscores growing public anxiety over security lapses and the need for tangible solutions.
