Bishop Adewole Demands Equitable Governance for Underserved Lagos Areas
Bishop Tasks Sanwo-Olu on Improved Govt Presence in Lagos

In a powerful address during his enthronement, the newly installed Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos Southwest, Anglican Communion, has issued a strong call for balanced development across Lagos State.

A Call for Government Equity

Rt. Reverend Ebenezer Ajayi Adewole used his historic enthronement ceremony on 29 November 2025 to highlight a troubling imbalance in how government presence and public services are distributed. He pointed out that while areas like Ikeja enjoy significant government attention, communities such as Festac Town remain noticeably neglected.

The Bishop shared his early observations with the congregation, stating that the disparity in public service delivery was impossible to ignore. He declared that the church, under his new leadership, would take an active role in addressing this issue and would no longer remain silent.

The Bishop's Firm Stance

"In the few days I have stayed in Festac, I have seen that Ikeja is different from Festac," Adewole stated. "The presence of government seems to be more at Ikeja than Festac. That will stop. By the time all of us go to Alausa to knock on the door of government, they will attend to us. Government must hear us."

This direct message to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administration underscores a growing demand for more inclusive governance. The bishop's plan involves mobilizing the community to directly engage with state authorities at the seat of power in Alausa, Ikeja, to demand fair treatment.

A New Diocese with a Vision

The enthronement event, which also marked the formal inauguration of the new Diocese of Lagos Southwest, was attended by senior clergy, government officials, and a multitude of worshipers. It was a significant moment for the Anglican Communion in the region.

During his inaugural sermon, themed 'Write the Vision,' Bishop Adewole laid out an expansive agenda that blends spiritual guidance with tangible community development. This vision is set to shape the identity and mission of the new diocese, positioning the church as a catalyst for both spiritual and societal progress in Lagos State.
