Emir Sanusi II Explains His Calm Demeanor After Losing Key Positions in Public Life
Emir Sanusi on Staying Calm After Losing Power Positions

Emir Sanusi II Shares Insights on Resilience After Losing High-Profile Roles

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has opened up about his composed response to losing two of the most influential positions in his public career. Speaking at the Fola Adeola Annual Ramadan Lecture, as reported by Daily Trust, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) emphasized that he did not panic when faced with these significant transitions.

Faith as a Foundation for Navigating Change

Sanusi credited his unwavering belief in God for helping him navigate the challenging periods following his suspension as CBN governor and his subsequent removal as Emir of Kano. He pointed out that people often mistakenly attribute power and outcomes to individuals, failing to recognize that circumstances change solely by divine will. The monarch reflected on his life journey, noting how quickly fortunes can shift, from being suspended from the central bank to becoming an emir, and later returning to the throne after removal.

"I was suspended from being governor of the central bank. Three months later, I became an emir. Several years ago, I was removed as emir; four years later, I came back. I’m now in the same palace, I’m on my throne. Yes, there are challenges, but at the end of the day, you hold on to God. You don’t panic," Sanusi stated.

Principles Over Positions: A Guiding Philosophy

Emir Sanusi urged people to view the loss of positions not as the end of their purpose in life but as an opportunity to remain true to their principles. He emphasized that maintaining integrity is more important than clinging to power, even if it means facing uncertainty. "If I’m taken away from positions, it’s not a big deal. At the end of the day, I ask myself, have I done anything to offend God? It’s better for you to leave there and keep to your principles than to stay there and earn the wrath of Allah," he advised.

Academic Pursuits and Personal Fulfillment

In related developments, Emir Sanusi II has shifted from attending physical lectures to virtual sessions for his Law degree at Northwest University in Kano, a logistical decision influenced by the security demands of his position. Academic sources describe him as an outstanding and brilliant student who actively participates in online class discussions. This marks his third bachelor's degree, highlighting his lifelong commitment to education.

Sanusi has expressed that his happiest moments come from teaching and studying law, which he sees as crucial for shaping society and governance in Nigeria. His journey underscores a dedication to personal growth and societal contribution, beyond the confines of formal roles.
