Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, has ignited a fiery debate online after publicly condemning the actions of Nigeria's Senate leaders. The entrepreneur and political activist took to his Instagram page on December 23, 2025, to share a video expressing his dismay at senators who lined up at an airport to welcome Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A Question of Democratic Principles
In the video, Isaac Fayose questioned the constitutional basis for such a display of reverence towards an unelected individual. He pointedly asked why elected officials, including the Senate leader, would stand "inside hot sun" to receive a person who holds no official office in the government. Fayose stressed that Nigeria is a democracy, not a monarchy like England or Dubai, where leadership is inherited.
"We all love Seyi, I even love Seyi more than you," Fayose stated, acknowledging Seyi Tinubu's philanthropic efforts. "But must you go and line up? You, our leader, Senate leader, inside sun, waiting for President's son, that does not have office in our constitution." He described the scene as inappropriate and a clear act of sycophancy.
Netizens React with Divided Opinions
The video quickly garnered significant attention on social media, with users expressing a wide range of views. Some commenters supported Fayose's stance, seeing the senators' actions as a sign of a deeper political malaise.
User @dr_dre6 reacted, "Nigeria is going, gone. It's very sad. Country is finished. He is acting like de-facto president. Indeed there was a country." Another, @morgan_thriller, commented, "Dictatorship family, abacha didn't indulge all these nonsense, tinubu is the worst thing to happen to Nigeria and Africa at large."
However, others challenged Fayose's perspective. User @folaskip suggested a different interpretation of the event: "Egbon u are too smart not to know that he only came down b4 his father, u are not dumb now, some of u use social media in a wrong way, BAT was inside that plane but Seyi came out 1st." Another user, @hajiwayse, simply opined, "You farming rubbish, president is behind in the full video...kai."
Not the First Public Critique
This incident is not the first time Isaac Fayose has used his platform to call out perceived wrongs, even within his own family. He had previously publicly criticised his elder brother, former Governor Ayo Fayose, accusing him of betraying close allies and family members. In that instance, he listed several political figures and described his brother as selfish and untrustworthy.
The current criticism of the Senate leaders' actions taps into a recurring public conversation about the boundaries between respect, protocol, and undue deference in Nigeria's democracy. Fayose's comments challenge elected officials to reflect on whom they choose to honour publicly and the symbolic messages such actions send to the electorate.
