Hisbah destroys seized alcoholic drinks in Katsina

The Katsina State Hisbah Board has carried out a public destruction of a significant haul of confiscated alcoholic beverages. The operation took place in Bakori town, located within the Funtua Local Government Area of the state.

Supervised Destruction in Funtua Zone

According to an official statement released on Sunday, December 14, 2025, the destruction was supervised by senior officials. DC Bashir Lawal Balarabe led the operation, accompanied by other Hisbah commanders from the Funtua zone. The items destroyed included a substantial quantity of seized contraband.

The haul consisted of 75 cartons of assorted alcoholic drinks and three jerrycans of Gogoro, a locally brewed wine. The public destruction was conducted as a clear demonstration of the board's enforcement activities.

Upholding Sharia and Moral Values

In the statement delivered by the board's Information Officer, Abdul Baki Mustapha, the rationale for the action was made clear. The Hisbah Board stated that the primary aim was to curb activities and practices that directly contravene the teachings of Islam.

Furthermore, the board emphasized its role in protecting the moral fabric and societal values of the communities within Katsina State. Such enforcement actions are framed as necessary measures to promote compliance with the state's legal and religious codes.

A Clear Message Against Violations

This event underscores the ongoing vigilance of the Hisbah corps in parts of northern Nigeria where Sharia law is in effect. The destruction of the seized items serves a dual purpose: it physically removes the prohibited goods and sends a strong, visible message to the public about the consequences of violating the law.

Operations like this in Bakori town are periodic reminders of the state's commitment to enforcing its statutes on prohibited substances. The involvement of zone commanders highlights the organized and official nature of these crackdowns on what is deemed immoral trade and consumption.
