President Bola Tinubu received spiritual counsel and prayers for his administration during the weekly Muslim congregational prayers in Lagos. The President, alongside top aides, observed Juma'at service at the Lekki Central Mosque on Friday, where the visiting Imam delivered a powerful sermon addressing the nation's leadership and unity.
Imam's Message of Resolve and Purpose
The spiritual leader, Dr. Salahudeen Munirudeen Arriyadhi, directly addressed President Tinubu during his sermon. He commended the administration's developmental efforts but acknowledged the inevitable criticisms and resistance that come with leadership. "It is impossible to please everyone at the same time," the Imam stated, urging the President not to be swayed by opposition voices but to remain steadfast, guided by a clear sense of purpose and service to the nation.
Drawing from Islamic teachings, Dr. Arriyadhi emphasized that leadership is a sacred trust. He quoted the Qur'an, reminding the congregation that Allah favours leaders who listen to the cries of their people and respond to their needs, while disapproving of those who ignore the plight of the governed. "We are praying for you. By the grace of Allah, you will succeed," he assured the President.
Sermon on Unity in Diversity
Titled "Unity in Diversity and Remembering the Day of Judgement," the Imam's sermon delved into the divine wisdom behind human differences. He stressed that variations in colour, tribe, religion, language, and nationality are not accidental but purposefully ordained by God.
"Diversity is a sign of Allah's wisdom," Dr. Arriyadhi explained. He argued that if God had willed uniformity, He would have created it. Therefore, these differences should serve as a foundation for mutual understanding, cooperation, and harmony, rather than sources of division, hostility, or conflict.
High-Profile Attendance at Lagos Mosque
President Tinubu was accompanied by key figures from his administration, including his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. Other senior government officials also joined the prayer session.
The President, who had arrived in Lagos on Saturday, December 20, to spend the festive season in the commercial capital, was received at the mosque by the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, and members of the mosque's management committee. The event highlighted the intersection of faith, governance, and national cohesion during the holiday period.
