Kalu: Killings and Abductions Politically Motivated Against Tinubu

Former Governor Accuses Politicians of Orchestrating Security Crisis

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the former governor of Abia State, has made startling allegations that the recent wave of killings and abductions across Nigeria are politically motivated attempts to undermine President Bola Tinubu's administration. During a recent interview with Channels Television, the prominent politician claimed that bandits responsible for violent attacks nationwide are being sponsored by political actors seeking to destabilize the government.

Historical Pattern of Political Sabotage

Kalu drew parallels between current security challenges and similar situations during former President Goodluck Jonathan's tenure. "What we are seeing is always a routine, something that goes with the elections," he stated during his appearance on Channels Television's Sunday Politics program. The senator explained that after elections, pressure groups typically emerge to challenge the sitting government through various means, including security disruptions.

According to Kalu, the terrorists and bandits are orchestrated by some members of the international community and local people who really want to destabilise the government. While he stopped short of naming the alleged sponsors, his allegations point to a coordinated effort involving both domestic and international actors working against Nigeria's stability.

Tinubu's Response to Security Challenges

Despite the concerning security situation, Kalu expressed confidence in President Tinubu's ability to handle the crisis. "I'm sure you can see that President Tinubu is equal to the task; for the first time, you see the president cancelling all his engagements," he noted, referencing the President's decision to prioritize security matters over other official duties.

The former governor highlighted that on Sunday, November 24, 2025, President Tinubu dedicated his entire day to addressing security challenges, demonstrating the administration's seriousness about resolving the situation. Kalu assured Nigerians that the government is making every effort to ensure the recovery of abducted citizens, particularly referencing recent cases involving kidnapped girls.

Kalu acknowledged that this represents "not the best of times for us" and described it as "not a very good time for Nigerian people and Nigerian citizens". However, he emphasized that security operatives and service chiefs have been fully mobilized to address the threats and restore order across the country.
