The Kebbi State House of Assembly has elected Salihu Dangoje as its new Speaker during a plenary session on Wednesday. Dangoje, who represents the Sakaba Constituency, takes over from the late Muhammad Usman, who passed away in April.
Unanimous Election and Swearing-In
The motion for Dangoje's nomination was moved by Muhammad Adamu and seconded by Lauwal Haruna. Following a unanimous endorsement by all lawmakers present, the Clerk of the House, Suleiman Shamaki, administered the oath of office to the new Speaker.

In his acceptance speech, Dangoje expressed gratitude to his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to provide inclusive and purposeful leadership aimed at strengthening the state's legislative arm. He also extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Speaker, the Zuru Emirate, and the people of Kebbi State.

Background on Late Speaker Muhammad Usman
Muhammad Usman died on April 6 at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, where he was receiving treatment for a prolonged illness. He was elected Speaker of the 10th Assembly on June 8, 2023. The position had remained vacant until Dangoje's election.
