Lagos Central Mosque Conducts Special Prayers for President Tinubu Ahead of 74th Birthday
The Lagos Community Central Mosque in Alausa hosted a significant prayer session in honor of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, preceding his 74th birthday on Sunday, March 29, 2026. Clerics at the mosque guided the congregation in reciting verses from the Quran, offering prayers for the president's protection, strength, and wisdom as he addresses the nation's challenges.
Governor Sanwo-Olu Highlights Political Engagement and Reforms
Speaking at the event, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the state Attorney-General, Lawal Pedro, expressed gratitude to religious leaders for organizing the prayers. He noted that President Tinubu deeply values their support and described March as a pivotal month for the president. The governor emphasized that the prayers symbolize ongoing goodwill towards his leadership.
Sanwo-Olu detailed that the birthday celebrations commenced on Friday with prayers in mosques and will conclude with church services on Sunday. On behalf of the president, he thanked Lagos residents for their trust and support, expressing optimism that Nigeria will overcome current challenges under Tinubu's guidance.
The governor urged residents to avoid complacency regarding the president's political future and to remain actively involved. He called on eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voters' Cards and participate fully in upcoming elections, stressing the necessity for sustained mobilization ahead of the 2027 polls.
Sanwo-Olu affirmed the president's commitment to reforms aimed at enhancing security and strengthening the nation. He referenced ongoing discussions about the creation of state police, mentioning that proposals on its operational framework have been submitted to the National Assembly. The governor encouraged Nigerians to remain patient and trust the administration's long-term vision, highlighting that national development requires time and consistency.
Coordinated Prayer Efforts Across Lagos State
In his remarks, Dr Jebe Abdullahi, the Special Adviser to the governor on Religious Matters (Islamic), stated that the prayer session was essential in recognition of Tinubu's societal contributions. He described the president as a leader who has mentored many and contributed to the development of others.
Abdullahi revealed that similar prayer sessions were being held simultaneously across the five divisions of Lagos State, including Ikorodu, Badagry, Lagos Island, Ikeja, and Epe, as part of a coordinated effort to seek divine support for the president. He emphasized that praying for national leaders remains a crucial responsibility, noting that Tinubu's tenure as governor of Lagos laid foundations that continue to influence governance in the state.
He urged Nigerians to reflect on the president's leadership and support initiatives aimed at national progress.
Prayers for National Stability and Growth
Also speaking, Afis Gbolahan Toriola, Chairman of the mosque, explained that the initiative was not only to honor the president but also to pray for the country's stability and growth. He clarified that the gathering aligns with religious teachings that encourage prayers for leaders, with the session focusing on seeking divine guidance, protection, and wisdom for those in authority.
Toriola noted that the prayers extended beyond the president to include key state officials such as Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, as well as other government functionaries. According to him, the goal was to ask for wisdom and direction for leaders at all levels, hoping their decisions would promote development and improve citizens' welfare.
