Lagos Launches BOSKOH Garden & Annual Christmas Lights Ceremony
Lagos Unveils BOSKOH Garden, Starts Christmas Lights Tradition

The Lagos State Government has officially opened a revitalised green space and initiated a new festive tradition for its public servants. On Wednesday, 19 December 2025, the Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency (LASIAMA) unveiled the newly redeveloped BOSKOH Garden at the State Secretariat Complex in Alausa.

Restoring a Sustainability Landmark

The event also marked the inaugural Christmas Lights Switch-On Ceremony, which is now set to become an annual event. The General Manager of LASIAMA, Ms. Adenike Adekanbi, described the project as the restoration of a once-prominent sustainability landmark that had suffered decline over time.

She emphasised that the garden's redevelopment was crucial to preserve its original role as a model for environmental conservation and greenery within the public service area. "BOSKOH Garden once stood as a reference point for environmental sustainability within the Secretariat. Its gradual decline challenged us to act, and as custodians of public infrastructure, we could not allow such a valuable asset to fade away," Adekanbi stated.

A Collaborative Effort for Public Good

The project was executed through a partnership involving LASIAMA, the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, and the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK). This collaboration underscores the state government's dedication to protecting and enhancing public assets.

"Our mandate was clear: to revitalise the garden without compromising its natural ecosystem. We insisted that nature must be respected, which is why the trees around us remain preserved and standing tall," Adekanbi added. The redesigned garden now serves as a calm, eco-friendly zone for relaxation, recreation, informal meetings, and public service engagement.

A New Festive Tradition for Alausa

A key announcement was that the Christmas Lights Switch-On will henceforth be held yearly at BOSKOH Garden. This move aims to promote sustainability while injecting festive colour into the Secretariat environment. "This transformation goes beyond aesthetics. It supports urban renewal, contributes to a healthier environment, and demonstrates what responsible infrastructure management can achieve," the LASIAMA boss noted.

In a goodwill message, the Special Adviser to the Ministry of Works, Engr. Dr. Olakunke Olayinka, hailed the project as a symbol of government efficiency in asset upkeep and a testament to Lagos's investment in functional public spaces.

Officially unveiling the garden, the Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, praised LASIAMA for transforming underutilised areas into valuable civic assets that align with the vision of a modern and vibrant Lagos. The Permanent Secretary, Office of Works, Arc. Adebayo Ayodeji Odusanya, also present, reaffirmed the state's commitment to sustained infrastructure maintenance across all facilities.

Located opposite the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the new BOSKOH Garden features:

  • Lawn seating areas
  • Shaded lounging spots
  • Green walkways
  • A dedicated festive light-up point that will illuminate the State Secretariat every December

The annual Christmas Lights Switch-On at this garden is expected to significantly enhance the public service environment by promoting recreation, mental wellness, and a greater appreciation for the environment among government workers and visitors to Alausa.
